Although I bought this Craftsman Industrial grade magnetic bit handle screwdriver from another company (Grainger) this screwdriver handle is my favorite magnetic bit handle screwdriver I own. Made in USA, has a solid chrome finish, is from the industrial grade Craftsman line of products and very simple as well. There aren't any gimmicks here or any special features (other than the 247 chrome finish) so when you hold this tool, you know what to expect. To this product to work effectively and do what ever job your doing. The drive size of this magnetic bit handle screwdriver is precisely 1/4 inches, otherwise known as a quarter inch drive. While I am not sure if the magnetization is from the magnet type rare earth, I've never once had a issue with the bits falling out or having way too much wiggle room. Even if the drive insert bit isn't magnetized at all, the bit still is still exceptionally secure. What I also like about this Craftsman Industrial magnetic bit handle screwdriver is the color of the handle. The color is a very simple black color, with white writing on the sides. The writing states only the brand (Craftsman) and the manufacturer model number which is 9-43373 and where this product is made, which is USA. The overall length of this product is 7-1/4 inches as well. The handle is exceptionally comfortable to use as well. This may be simply hard plastic with ridges, I've used this screwdriver often for extended periods of times and truly have not have had any issues.

One of things I love about turning is the way ideas evolve and take you somewhere else, often without a break in the beat. Over the last week I’ve had some time to play with ideas and themes. Some have worked, some have not, but each has highlighted either another avenue to explore or one to ignore. There’s no guarantee that I’ll listen and follow the correct path, of course. I can be as deaf as the next person. One avenue that I think is working – at least for me - is illustrated here. The picture doesn’t show the story in full, but gives an impression. I will say that there is no router involved in the process…not finished as yet,  Well for some it’s obviously an opportunity to sell products – tools, finishes, DVDs, push tuition, or get on the ladder to some perceived woodturning heaven of the national & international circuit. The other reason is simply to share what you do and hope it is of interest.

Mr. Joseph Mazoff, inventor, member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and president of J & A Machinery started his metal crafts career in Pennsylvania as a young apprentice nine years old in a black smith shop in 1926. In 1938 at age 18, competing against more than 300 experienced competitors in their fifties and sixties, Mr. Mazoff took first place in the Pennsylvania state wide tool grinding contest, including twist drill sharpening.
Mr. Mazoff has lectured on Drill Point Geometry in various universities such as Brigham Young and other teaching institutions in nationwide states such as Texas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Mexico and other states.
Mr. Mazoff has also conducted Drill Point Geometry seminars at large machine shops at major industrial plants such as Pratt & Whitney at East Hartford, Connecticut, General Electric at Schenectady, N.Y., The Abex Corporation, The Philadelphia Naval Shipyard & other major installations that have large machine shops
Also, Mr. Mazoff authored an 11 page article titled "Choose the Best Drill Point Geometry" which was printed in the June 1989 issue of "Modern Machine Shop" magazine. (Reprints of article available by contacting "Modern Machine Shop" magazine).Back in the Appalachian Mountains where the author started his career in a blacksmith shop, electricity was unknown. Consequently, when drilling holes manually with 1 1/2" diameter drills, such drilling was painstakingly slow, requiring much time, patience and physical effort. Therefore, through experimentation; it was established that once a conical (conventional) surfaced drill was ground with a flat surface (multi-faceted point); it produced a linear chisel which required 150 percent less thrust than a conventional drill. However, as manual proficiency to grind multi-faceted points declined down through the years, such points declined accordingly because they are extremely difficult to grind by hand. However, due to the recent advent of NC machinery that demands self- centering points, multi-faceting has been revived to meet the demand.

Drill Chuck Removal

Drill Chuck Removal

Removing Threaded-on Drill ChucksMost handheld drills and drivers have threaded-on chucks, although, that's not always the case. But you can be certain that all keyless chucks are threaded-on chucks. Again, it's best to check the owner's manual if there's any doubt.Threaded-on chucks are tightly screwed to the drill's spindle and are held in place with a screw deep inside the jaws of the chuck. This screw helps hold the chuck on the spindle during operation, preventing it from spinning off.The first step for removing a threaded-on chuck is removing that screw in the jaws, which might need an Allen key, torx driver, or flat-head screwdriver, depending on the drill model.1. Remove the chuck screwThe most important thing to remember for this step is that chuck screws arereverse-thread and need to be turned clockwise. This reverse threading counteracts the torque of the drill, keeping the chuck tightly connected.Because those chucks are threaded on so tightly, they won't just spin off the spindle once the chuck screw is removed. Chucks are often torqued on so well that a drill may operate normally if a chuck screw falls out (although this is not recommended).
